7-Zip is an archive file with a high compression ratio. Typically, 7-Zip compresses the 7z format 30-70% better than the zip format. It offers high compression in the new 7z format using LZMA compression.
7-Zip is open-source software. Most of the source code is licensed under the GNU LGPL. The unRAR code is licensed under a hybrid license: GNU LGPL restrictions + unRAR.
You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including those in a business. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip. 7-
Zip is an open-source file storage application that offers high compression and is the most widely used format, the newer 7z format, resulting in compression 30-50% better than standard ZIP. We tested it using a log file; the server compressed the ZIP file to an 18MB size, and using 7-Zip reduced it to 8MB (results may vary depending on the file type).
