3ds Max 2022 is a powerful 3D modeling and animation software used by game developers, visual effects artists, and graphic designers to create expansive worlds, stunning scenes, and virtual reality (VR) experiences.

Autodesk has released 3ds Max 2022, the latest update of its 3D modeling and rendering software. This version updates several popular modeling tools, including Smart Extrude, Relax, Slice, and Symmetry modifiers, and adds new pre-made maps to the Bake to Texture system.

3ds Max 2022 is part of a larger series of updates to Autodesk's Media and Entertainment software, alongside Maya 2022 and MotionBuilder 2022.

The main changes in 3ds Max 2022 are frequent updates to the software design tools. The popular Smart Extrude system, added in 3ds Max 2021.2, now features two new [Shift] drag operations to automatically connect extruded geometry to any part of the mesh it touches and to cut through the entire mesh.

Several key modifiers have also been updated, with the Slice modifier gaining a Radial Slice option. Holes created by slice operations can now be automatically capped.
The Symmetry modifier now supports multiple levels of symmetry in a single operation, allowing geometry to be duplicated and mirrored around a central point created by the tool.
The Relax modifier, used to remove fine surface detail—for example, to clean up raw 3D scan data—now has a Preserve Volume option to better maintain the original shape.
Other modifiers receive performance updates: the interactive performance of the Extrude Modifier has been improved "up to 100x," and AutoSmooth has been "significantly" enhanced.
Rendering changes include an option to set ambient occlusion samples for the viewport and a new keyboard shortcut to make viewport windows float and borderless.
