The new version of Photoshop refreshes some common keyboard commands to align with most other software. The new undo (Command-Z) makes sense to most users, although it may challenge the muscle memory of current Photoshop users who have long been accustomed to a different key set and the Step Backward command for multiple undos. Similarly, transforming a layer no longer requires the Shift key to maintain the aspect ratio while resizing. You can now have Photoshop perform mathematical calculations in the image resize tool or other fields that require numerical values.

Adobe has transformed the main screen into a central resource for recent snapshots, tutorials, and a Lightroom catalog that you can access anytime via the new home icon in the options bar.

Finally, Photoshop features a native color wheel.

Content Aware Fill is an algorithm that "sees" beyond an unwanted or distracting object in your image, allowing you to remove it seamlessly and replace it with the background that was there. This year, Photoshop leans into the content-aware process with a new command and a companion workspace that provides tools and options for more precise and complex fill operations.

You can now use the enhanced AI-powered live preview (driven by Adobe Sensei's AI engine) to select and choose which part of the image the program should sample or exclude for precise control over the results. This update to the Content Aware Fill feature allows me to remove an unwanted person from an image I had been working on literally for years — a task that was incredibly difficult to accomplish with previous versions.

Live Blend Mode Preview

Live Blend Mode is another time-saver for Photoshop workflows, allowing you to hover over each blend mode with your mouse to see how each one would look if applied. It's also great for newcomers to get a quick idea of what blend modes can do.

Frame Tool

The new familiar Frame Tool makes it easier for new users to hide the mask by creating placeholders for frames in your images. This way, you can place any image in the frame, and it will automatically resize to fit the window you created. You can create as many frames as you want in the layout. Once the images are inside the frame, you can transform, move, or swap them.
