Features of Windows Server 2019:
Windows Server 2019 simplifies the interaction of local software with Microsoft cloud services, such as Azure Backup, Azure File Sync, and Emergency Repair Services. This approach is part of Microsoft's broader vision for local devices, which serve as edge nodes for corporate cloud systems, allowing administrators to shift workloads between private and public environments.
Microsoft plans to reduce the size of the Server Core container image to about 1.7 GB, significantly smaller than the current size of 5 GB. Reducing the image size simplifies the optimization of workload performance and addresses user feedback requesting more flexible images.
The release has improved compatibility with Kubernetes, a popular open-source container orchestration software in the Windows Server environment.
The update has brought numerous enhancements to tasks managed by Linux tools, including support for shielded virtual machines. These virtual machines provide customers with an environment designed to protect against compromised administrators or malicious insiders. Additionally, Microsoft is making efforts to assist users in migrating their Linux scripts to Windows Server 2019, which translates to improved support for OpenSSH, Curl, and Tar.
Alongside Linux security updates, Microsoft is also incorporating Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection into Windows Server 2019. This is expected to help users identify and resolve security vulnerabilities before they escalate into significant issues.
