Maya is a software suite for creating 3D graphics and modeling, originally developed by Alias Systems, but now owned by Autodesk as part of their Media and Entertainment division. Autodesk acquired Maya in October 2005 after purchasing Alias. Maya is used in the film and television industry, as well as in video games and architectural design.
The software relies on its own rendering engine in addition to Mental Ray.
In the 2012 release, the program's interface was completely reprogrammed using Nokia's Qt library.
