Based on customer feedback and other surveys, AutoCAD 2021 features streamlined and modernized versions of some existing tools, along with the introduction of some new tools. In this blog, we'll highlight 5 of the new features and updates in AutoCAD 2021:
Trim and Extend
The TRIM and EXTEND commands have been changed to make the workflow faster. It uses a previously optional method that is now the default operation.

Initially, I wasn't sure if this "new look" was faster, but after some time, it started to feel more efficient. What I like is that if the new method doesn't suit you, both TRIM and EXTEND can be reconfigured to the original operation method, which is "Standard" versus "Quick". Trimming lines across hatch patterns to their boundaries is a real time-saver. Again, this can be reconfigured to the original method by adding a new system variable called "TRIMEDGES".
Rev Cloud
REVCLOUD has received a long-awaited update. For those who use this command frequently, it was always frustrating. Arc lengths were always the wrong size. Now, this should no longer be the case. It uses the drawing area size to automatically adjust the arc length to a more appropriate size. Of course, it might not always be perfect, but the required change should be minimal.

To help make changes much easier than in previous versions, REVCLOUD is now recognized as such and no longer as a Polyline. So, how is that useful? There is a setting inside the object properties panel, "Arc Length," which allows changes to REVCLOUD faster than in previous versions.
Break at Point
BREAKATPOINT is a new command that allows a break at a specific point along a line, arc, or open polyline.

BREAKATPOINT has two major improvements. First, it works accurately, reliably, and much better than the previous method of doing this using the Break command. Second, it is repeatable by pressing Enter, Return, or Spacebar. I was always hesitant to teach the old method due to its unreliability and strange way of not working as expected. Not anymore!
Quick Measure
When I first saw Quick Measure in AutoCAD 2020, I was quite impressed. Well, it just got better. I'm even more impressed. It now has the ability, very quickly, to display area and perimeter information.

Simply clicking inside a closed boundary instantly displays area and perimeter information. If these closed areas include more closed areas (islands), they are automatically detected and removed from the calculation. Pressing the Shift key allows selecting multiple closed boundaries and displaying cumulative area and perimeter data. The same key removes already selected areas, and the data is updated accordingly.

DWG History
DWG HISTORY takes advantage of the drawing history for the following cloud storage providers: OneDrive, Dropbox, and Box. The cloud storage provider determines the number of versions stored and manages their expiration.

When you log into your Autodesk account and open a drawing for the first time from the cloud storage area, a balloon notification appears in the lower right corner indicating the ability to compare previous versions of this drawing using the Drawing History panel. The Drawing History panel lists previous versions, and when each is selected, the DWG COMPARE utility is used to show the differences between that and the current drawing.

In summary, AutoCAD 2021 introduced some long-awaited improvements and new tools to make some previously tedious tasks easier.

Both TRIM and EXTEND have a new feel that takes some getting used to, and REVCLOUD feels much better.

Drawing history will be very popular. It's easy to use and makes the most of cloud storage providers' ability to store drawing history.

Quick Measure has improved. It never fails to impress.
