
CloneZilla Live Overview
CloneZilla Live, developed since 2004, is used to deploy multiple computers simultaneously. It's a practical tool, but it does have some limitations. To use it, you must first set up a DRBL server, and the machine to be deployed must be running on a network.
Create backups of your hard drive partitions and restore them when needed, all thanks to the powerful, open-source Clonezilla Live application. There's nothing worse than losing all the data stored on your computer due to a hard drive failure or a serious system crash. Fortunately, advanced backup and recovery systems can help you avoid such situations. Clonezilla is one of them.
Playing from Clonezilla media opens a menu to select the Clonezilla Live playback mode and perform memory tests. Controller data configuration options are displayed during this process, allowing you to specify the keymap policy.
To install this program, the basic steps involve downloading a pre-built Clonezilla Live file and then placing it on a bootable medium (CD, USB flash drive, or USB hard drive). Two file types are available: ISO and ZIP. The former is for CDs, and the latter for USB flash drives. Alternatively, you can place Clonezilla Live on a hard drive or a PXE server.
Clonezilla is a disk partition cloning/imaging software, similar to True Image® or Norton Ghost®. It helps you deploy, back up, and restore systems on standard machines. Three versions of Clonezilla are available: Clonezilla Live, Clonezilla Lite Server, and Clonezilla SE (server edition). Clonezilla Live is suitable for backing up and restoring a single machine. While Clonezilla Lite Server or SE is designed for mass deployments, it can clone multiple computers (over 40!) simultaneously. Clonezilla saves and restores only the used blocks on the hard drive, increasing cloning efficiency. With some high-end machines in a 42-node cluster, multicast recovery rates of 8 GB/min have been reported.

- Supported file systems: (1) ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs in GNU/Linux, (2) FAT, NTFS in Microsoft Windows, (3) HFS+ in Mac OS, (4) UFS in FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD, and (5) VMFS in VMware ESX. Therefore, you can clone GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, Intel-based Mac OS, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD, whether the operating system is 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x86-64). For these file systems, only used blocks are saved and restored within the partition. For unsupported file systems, sector-to-sector cloning is performed using the dd command in Clonezilla.

- The image file can be on the local disk, an SSH server, a Samba server, or an NFS server.
- It relies on Partclone (default), Partimage (optional), ntfsclone (optional), or dd to copy or clone a partition. However, Clonezilla, which includes other programs, can save and restore not only partitions but the entire disk.
- By using another free program, drbl-winroll, which we also developed, the hostname, group, and SID of the cloned MS Windows machine can be changed automatically.
